hi guys! this is a comic i made for a final in my comics in literature class. we had to do a research paper on a topic we’d discussed in class and then accompany it with a comic with a relevant subject. my paper was about hyper-sexualization of women in comic books, but i decided to broaden it out here as well as personalize it and make myself the subject and discuss something i’ve been subjected to in the convention circuit and on the internet as well as thousands of other women, as well as give a cue to thought about how the comic book industry as well as the video game industry and even just media in general (all of which are male dominated) push such ridiculous pressures onto girls and women.

also, it feels kind of silly to have to add this since i hope it’s obvious, but i am very aware that there are men that don’t subscribe to this attitude, and am incredibly grateful that these issues are brought to light to people other than the ones that are subjected to it.

anyway haha i have literally been staring at this for 9 hours i don’t even know which direction is up anymore. thanks for reading!!!

I was a voice in not one, but two major video game titles.

I hosted the Reach Beta tutorial.

I was a Gears of War superfan panelist at ComicCon.

I hosted the Ubisoft presser at E3 2012.

I didn’t do any of it for the money.

For most I got paid next to nothing, and for some, less than that.

I did it because I love video games.

Because I’ve dreamt since I was a kid of being in one of the games I love.

How many games have you done voices for?

How many cons have you repped at?

Your buddy’s Unreal Tournament garage deathmatch doesn’t count.

I go to E3 each year because I love video games.

Because new titles still get me high.

Because I still love getting swag.

People ask me what console I play.

I get invited to E3 because real gamers know I’m a gamer.

I don’t do it for the money.

After 9/11, so many people donated that there was a glut of blood in the system and much of it expired on the shelves, unused, because there was more than needed. ALso, if you donate right now, you will not be eligible to donate again for 8 weeks, so about a month after 9/11 there was a bit of a shortage, because many people couldn’t donate again for several weeks.

Consider delaying your donation for a week or two to insure a good steady flow of blood that will allow blood banks to replenish their inventory. Most blood banks in the United States are part of an emergency sharing system and will be shipping ready to transfuse products to Boston if they are needed. Spacing out donations insures everyone will have blood to provide their community in the coming weeks.

Welp. I, like every cosplayer ever, procrastinated so hard.

At first, I was making a

Nocturne costume, but I realized that I didnt have time to get my hair done or make/buy the wings. (Which is why I have that corset). So, I decided that I should do Zealot. I’ve never made armour in my life so I was really really skeptical of myself and didnt know how to go about what I was doing.

I ended up not touching the costume for 4 months because of my doubts and started doing everything last minute.

I ended up making the shoulders as well but I didnt know how to make the top round, so that was a fail. Couldnt find decent stockings to match my skintone; in hindsight, I realized I should have just bought matte skintone leggings. All in all, my best friend said I should just be storm in a silver leotard, but I didnt want to do that. So she played up my wig and made it into this crazy updo and I put the corset over it and decided I should just look Sci-fi. Lesson learned(TWICE): Dont procrastinate and have some confidence in what youre doing. I’m going to finish this costume either way because I started it and I hate letting things just be half assed. Sorry for this lengthy post.

She’s not a superhero in the typical sense of the word, but anyone who’s looking forward to Naughty Dog’s The Last of Us should check out American Dreams when it hits shelves on April 24, 2013. The title features a young woman named Riley, one of the comic’s protagonists. In the story, Riley meets Ellie (the game’s protagonist) around the time both characters have to join the military or be left to fend for themselves outside or in the quarantine zone. Riley is described as “tough” and a “cool older girl” in contrast to Ellie’s inexperienced or “innocent” character. Riley wants to escape the quarantine zone and avoid the life of a soldier, so she and Ellie decide to leave and tough it in the post apocalyptic environment of their world.
